The UNION Mediation Center proposal follows the primordial principles of the bible - the creation of the earth. It is evident in the bible that earth starts from the formless void until god establishes and puts everything into motion. The UMC will follow the steps of the earth creation, in which the design begins with the empty void to allow the site environment (259 Symonds street), people occupation and meditation program shape the building form.
The Union Meditation Center creates an environment that opposes the urban complexness. The idea is to create the sense of regularity and order. Interior space includes accommodations and dining halls which are provided to the long-term meditation users. There will be two meditational spaces - the sky meditation and earth meditation. Through creating two contrasting environments, will allow different meditation experiences for the users with different needs. People that chose to go through the meditation program at UMC will be required to wear the orange meditation coat and follow the meditation schedules, this is for the purpose of creating a formal meditational environment and better experience in the meditation center.
